Curaçao, an island known for its beautiful beaches and rich culture, offers an array of vibrant festivals and events throughout the year. Whether you are a fan of music, sports, art or culinary delights, there is always something to experience. The following is an overview of some of the festivals and events in Curacao.

Fuikdag

Every first Sunday of the year, hundreds of revelers gather in Fuikbaai for Fuikdag, a unique event where people gather on boats, jet skis and even inflatable swimming bands to celebrate the New Year. The celebration can only be reached by boat, so it is essential to arrange transportation in advance.

Curaçao Carnival

Carnival is without a doubt the biggest and most exuberant celebration on Curaçao. For several weeks, the streets of Willemstad transform into a colorful spectacle with daily parades, dancing and music. Highlights include the Gran Marcha (Grand Parade) and the Children’s Parade. Visitors are advised to bring plenty of drinks and sun protection during the Gran Marcha, as the parade can last for hours. It is also important to be aware of traffic detour in the western part of Willemstad during the festivities.

Koningsdag

As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Curaçao celebrates Koningsdag on April 27. The festivities begin the night before in the Pietermaai area and continue the next day with craft and second-hand markets in Willemstad. In the evening, there are several parties scattered throughout the island, where locals and tourists alike gather to celebrate King Willem-Alexander’s birthday.

Curaçao Culinair

For foodies, Curaçao Culinair is a true paradise. This annual event in April brings together the island’s best restaurants and bars to present their most flavorful dishes and cocktails. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of culinary delights in an atmospheric setting, often held in the beautiful garden of Landhuis Chobolobo.

Curaçao International Film Festival

Film buffs will enjoy the Curaçao International Film Festival. This annual event, held in April, showcases dozens of films from around the world. While you may not want to spend five days in the movie theater during your vacation, it’s definitely worth picking up a movie or two during your stay.

Kaya Kaya Street Party

What began as a small-scale neighborhood gathering has grown into Curaçao’s largest block party: the Kaya Kaya Street Party. Twice a year, the Otrobanda neighborhood transforms into a lively festival site with live music, art and culinary delights. Local residents open their doors to sell homemade delicacies, while street performers and murals contribute to the unique atmosphere of the event.

Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival

The Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival, a tropical counterpart to the famous Dutch festival, has been held since 2010. This event takes place in August and annually attracts world-renowned artists including Lionel Richie, John Legend, Usher, Enrique Iglesias, Diana Ross, Prince, Santana, Marc Anthony, Sting, Stevie Wonder, The Isley Brothers, Randy Newman, Wyclef Jean, Tom Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Juan Luis Guerra and The Pointer Sisters. It offers a mix of jazz, soul, R&B and other musical styles.

Curaçao Pride

In October, Curaçao celebrates diversity and inclusiveness at the annual Curaçao Pride. This five-day festival includes several parties and a colorful parade through the streets of Willemstad. The event attracts both local and international visitors and highlights the island’s open and welcoming culture.

KLM Curaçao Marathon

For sports enthusiasts, the KLM Curaçao Marathon is an event not to be missed. At the end of November, participants can choose from several distances, ranging from 5 km to the full marathon. The course passes iconic locations such as the Pontjesbrug and the 56-meter-high Juliana Bridge, and ends on an idyllic beach, often near the Avila Beach Hotel, where a Caribbean after-party takes place.

Punda Vibes

Every Thursday night, the Punda neighborhood comes alive during Punda Vibes. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., visitors can enjoy late-night shopping, live music, street performances and a closing fireworks display. Some nights have a special theme, adding to the dynamic and festive atmosphere.
